THE FULL SYNTHETIC PRICE GUIDE

Compare the service.
Then compare the price.

There is no single full synthetic oil change price that fits every vehicle and every shop. A useful quote starts with your car.

What determines your quote?

Your engine’s required oil specification, oil capacity, filter, and the shop’s labor and fees all affect the final amount. An advertised package may cover only a stated number of quarts. Vehicles needing additional oil or a different filter can cost more.

Ask for an itemized, out-the-door quote for your year, make, model, and engine. If you are comparing Canada and the United States, keep CAD and USD separate; a dollar sign alone does not tell you the currency.

The five-line price comparison

Check thisAsk the shop
Oil specificationDoes this full synthetic oil meet my manual’s requirements?
Included quantityHow much oil is included, and what will additional oil cost?
Filter and laborIs the correct filter included? Is labor included?
Taxes and feesWhat is the complete total for my vehicle?
Offer eligibilityIs this coupon valid here, for this oil and this service?

A worked example, not a market quote

Suppose one shop advertises a $60 package, then adds $18 for extra oil and $7 in fees. That is $85 before tax. Another shop quotes $80 with the required oil and fees included. Even though its headline price is higher, the second quote is lower on those assumptions.

These numbers illustrate how to compare quotes. They are not current prices, a national average, or a prediction for your vehicle.

Keep optional services separate

Ask the shop to separate the requested oil change from recommended add-ons. A recommendation deserves an explanation: what was observed, how it relates to the manufacturer’s schedule, and what it costs. Decide before authorizing the work.

Ask for the receipt details

Keep the service date, odometer reading, oil specification, quantity, and filter information. This helps you compare future visits and maintain a clear service record. Base your next interval on your vehicle guidance, not on a generic claim printed on an oil bottle.
