Start with the vehicle’s schedule
Find the maintenance section for your model year and engine. Check both time and distance requirements, and read any separate conditions for your type of use. A low odometer reading alone does not answer whether service is due.
Understand the oil-life system
If your vehicle has an oil-life monitor, read the manufacturer’s explanation of how to use it and any maximum time requirement. Do not interpret its percentage as a direct measurement of how much oil is in the engine. Check oil level as directed in the manual.
Read the operating conditions
Maintenance schedules may distinguish normal operation from particular demanding conditions. Compare the manual’s definitions with your actual driving rather than deciding based on the word “synthetic” alone.
Keep the next step concrete
After service, retain the date and odometer reading and confirm that any required maintenance reminder was reset. If your history is missing or an alert is unfamiliar, ask a qualified service provider to help interpret your vehicle’s instructions.
